Frequently Asked Questions
What tools have you used to create eLearning or videos?
I am proficient with using Adobe Creative Suite, Articulate Storyline/Rise 360, Adobe Captivate, Techsmith Camtasia, and Vyond to create interactive eLearnings as well as customer education video courses.
What are some of the strategies you’ve used to create engaging learning?
Some strategies that I use to create engaging learning is to make the content interactive utilizing quizzes, simulations, and sometimes games. I also set clear learning objectives at the start of each eLearning module or virtual course to provide learners with context of what they will achieve by the end of the training and use thought provoking visuals and scenarios that align with the learning objectives.
How have you measured the success of the learning programs you’ve created?
I've measured the success of some of the learning programs that I've created by a few metrics such as learner engagement. To see engagement, I've used course/program completion rates and time spent on activities. I've also measured success by learning outcome. This would be captured through assessment scores and pre/post evaluations. I've also measured success by calculating ROI by measuring improvements in business outcomes such as less reported customer calls and training expenses.
Explain some strategies that you’ve used working with subject matter experts?
When collaborating with SMEs, I believe that communication and mutual understanding are key. I typically start by scheduling a discussion/brainstorm session with them and listen to their expertise and insights, ensuring I understand their perspectives fully. To make sure I understand, I paraphrase their points, ask clarifying questions, and summarize what I hear to ensure I grasp their complete message. I set clear expectations upfront regarding communication methods, review cycles, and deadlines to helps prevent misunderstandings. I have gone further a few times with educating SMEs on the eLearning development process and the importance of pinpointing clear learning objectives versus having a course or learning program that is used as an information dump with no clear learning objectives.
What are some of the pitfalls you’ve experienced and how did you mitigate them?
One pitfall that I've experienced is misunderstanding or misinterpreting the information that I've been given when working with SMEs. To mitigate this, I clarify concepts, ask relevant questions, and provide summaries for confirmation. I also schedule recurring check-ins and feedback loops to mitigate scope creep and to ensure alignment with agreed learning objectives. Another pitfall that I've experienced is technical constraints where a system was not setup to be used to produce an eLearning course. To overcome this, I proactively seek additional resources or expertise that can sometimes go beyond a SMEs scope and come up with quick workarounds or solutions to prevent loss of development and review time or missing targeted deadlines.
